Blocking & unblocking text messages

You can block or unblock text messages from individual phone numbers, or you can block all incoming and outgoing messages for your own phone.

Important: Blocking messages using any of these methods does not stop you from receiving free messages from Alltel regarding Collections, My Account registration, or username and password functions that require a special code sent via text message.

Blocking and unblocking text messages from a specific phone number

Before you begin, make sure the auto signature feature is turned off for outgoing text messages. For information about controlling your auto signature, visit Support and choose your phone.

To block or unblock messages from a specific number:

  1. Create a new text message on your wireless phone.
  2. Enter 8888 as the recipient.
  3. Enter one of the following codes in the body of the message:
    • Block a number from sending messages to you: B followed by a space and the 10-digit mobile number. For example: “B 5551234567”.
    • Unblock a blocked number: U followed by a space and the 10-digit mobile number. For example: “U 5551234567”.
Note: You must include the space after B or U.
  4. Send the message.

When senders from the numbers you’ve blocked attempt to send you a message, they receive this response: “You have been blocked from originating messages to this subscriber.”
